Under Milk Wood: : An Adaptation

Yesterday I attended an adaptation of Dylan Thomas’ radio play, Under Milk Wood at a community college. The adaptation and the direction were done by the head of the Visual and Performing Arts Chairperson who doubles as the creator and director of the Readers’ Theater project. I could not take my ears away from the script as read by the players on a teleprompter, nor my eyes from the stage as the presentation was aided by a back drop of visual stills, sound effects and musicians. The production was amazingly synchronized by the techno staff of students and one teacher. The players were community college students and two teachers. I believe that the quality of this production rivaled that of a graduate school program. Too bad that the presidents of Harvard and Princeton were not in the audience. They just might have had to offer a scholarship or two! Yes, Virginia, there are smart people at community colleges!
