In 1998, my husband and I visited China for the first time. The other day, I reread the notes that I kept on that particular trip. The following is an excerpt from those notes.
The one child per family policy may sound horrible, but when you see how lovingly that one child is cared for, it may not be a bad idea. Right now (1998), the grandparents who have retired, take care of the child while both parents work. I hate the idea of abortion and feel sick about the thousands of little girls that are up for adoption.
If men would wear rubbers, this world (not just China) could be a great place for kids everywhere.
